§7 · Why Now

AI is widening the variance between humans, not narrowing it.

For two centuries, technology shifts compressed the gap between the most capable humans and the rest. AI is doing the opposite. The leverage available to a high-capability operator with AI is orders of magnitude larger than the leverage available to a low-capability operator with the same tools. The discipline that closes that gap — or, for a population that can pay for it, that lifts a person to the top of it — becomes infrastructure.
